Japan's surrender decision
Actually, the “Japanese high command”, i.e. the Japanese Government, was divided over what to do. Eventually, Prime Minister Kantaro Suzuki, the leader of the “peace faction”, broke the deadlock by appealing to the Emperor for a decision. This was opposed by War Minister Korechika Anami, who begged the Emperor to reconsider. The Emperor did not reply, and effectively ended the argument by walking out of the subterranean bunker where the cabinet meeting was held. Anami later committed suicide. - From Quora, 22.03.24
